Toy Story 5 Is Almost Here — And It Looks Like It’s Going to Hurt

Toy Story 5 Is Coming in August 2026 – and My Inner Kid Is Not Ready

I honestly thought I had said a proper goodbye to Woody, Buzz, and the gang. Toy Story 3 shattered me in the best way, and Toy Story 4 felt like a gentle epilogue – a real, earned ending. So hearing that Toy Story 5 is officially on the way, set to hit theaters in August 2026, has me in that weird emotional space between pure excitement and nervous, hand-wringing dread.

If you grew up with these movies, you know they’ve always been about more than talking toys. They’re about growing up, letting go, and figuring out who you are when the world you knew changes. Andy moving on, Woody choosing a new path, Buzz learning to lead – each film has taken a simple idea (a kid’s toy box) and turned it into a story about identity and purpose that somehow hits just as hard when you’re 8 or 38.

That’s why Toy Story 5 feels like such a big swing. Where do you go after you’ve already given your characters a near-perfect farewell? My guess is we’re going to see the gang wrestling with what “purpose” means once the kids are older, or once the playtime phase really, truly ends. Maybe we’ll see toys facing the idea of retirement, legacy, or being passed down again. Maybe it’ll be about chosen family versus the roles we feel obligated to play.

Pixar has a lot to live up to here. The bar is ridiculously high, and I don’t just want nostalgia and cameos. I want that emotional gut punch this series is famous for – the kind that makes you quietly reevaluate your own life on the drive home from the theater.

Still, I can’t pretend I’m not counting down the days to August 2026. One more ride with these characters that basically grew up with us? If Pixar can find one more honest thing to say about growing up, letting go, and finding your place in the world, then I’m ready to let Toy Story break my heart all over again.
